Finally, the vault of information will be disclosed to the world after an executive order issued to ensure maximum transparency. The Pentagon started sharing files of UFO sightings via an initiative called PURSUE (Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters). The first wave of released files includes 161 documents accumulated since the days of Cold War from the Pentagon’s, FBI’s, and NASA’s archives, inviting everyone to explore the “unresolved.”

A Modern Mystery Unfolds

It seems the time when one could easily debunk the latest UFO sighting is over. Alongside with numerous photographs are high-definition video footage from 2025 with dark elongated objects being tracked on military radar over the west coast of America. In 2023, the FBI had recorded one particularly intriguing encounter of federal law enforcement officers encountering a massive glowing orb resembling an Eye of Sauron. The “mother orb” reportedly released small red spheres organized in groups of two and four. What makes this case even more peculiar is that this phenomenon was observed for 48 hours from various locations across the country.

Also included in the archive are transcripts from the Apollo 12 and 17 missions mentioning some “dots” in triangle formation and unusual flashes observed on the moon’s surface. One particular image that has long been a subject of discussion between ufologists was released for the government’s investigation, admitting that there is still “no consensus” on whether it depicts any sort of physical object. Football-shaped crafts hovering over the East China Sea in 2022, as well as metallic objects appearing out of bright lights and disappearing instantly – this is just a tiny fraction of the reported sightings.

Even though the Department of Defense still does not admit any confirmation of “non-human” life forms, the tone of this disclosure sounds different from previous waves of releases. As mentioned by the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, this classified information “was hidden for too long.” Even though 108 out of 161 documents have redacted sensitive information to conceal the location of military bases, the primary information about the sightings remained intact, making further analysis possible for both professional and amateur scientists.

The Search for an Answer

As the Pentagon is planning to keep sharing files “by drips” every other week, the society is faced with a new reality. It is apparent that whatever these sightings represent – either adversary’s technology, some atmospheric phenomenon, or extraterrestrial life form – the government is ready to admit their existence to the public. We are leaving the time of “weather balloons” behind us.

What has always intrigued people about our upper atmosphere is the mystery surrounding its secrets.
