TAMPA, Florida<\/strong> \u2013 A Bangladeshi doctoral student at the University of South Florida has been found dead, and his roommate is in custody facing multiple charges, including unlawfully moving a dead body and tampering with evidence, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities are also actively searching for a second Bangladeshi PhD student who remains missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Victim Identified, Body Found on Bridge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister, the remains of Zamil Limon, 27, were discovered on the morning of April 24 on the Howard Frankland Bridge, which spans Tampa Bay. Limon, a student of geography, environmental science, and policy, had been missing since April 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause and manner of death, with results expected soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roommate Arrested After SWAT Standoff<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Limon’s roommate, Hisham Saleh Abugharbieh, 26, was taken into custody at a residence approximately one mile from the USF campus following a domestic violence call on Friday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities stated that deputies safely evacuated family members from the home before Abugharbieh barricaded himself inside, refusing to surrender. A SWAT team was deployed, and he eventually exited the residence peacefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abugharbieh, a former USF student who is a US citizen, faces preliminary charges including domestic violence and battery, false imprisonment, tampering with evidence, failure to report a death, and unlawfully moving a human body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigators noted that Abugharbieh had been interviewed earlier in connection with the disappearance but stopped cooperating. After his arrest, he resumed speaking with detectives. Court records indicate he had prior arrests for battery and burglary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Search Continues for Second Student<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Authorities continue to search for Nahida Sultana Bristy, 27, a chemical engineering PhD student who was last seen on April 16 at a campus science facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are still actively searching for Nahida,” said Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer, appealing to the public for any information. Law enforcement dive teams are searching the bay near the Howard Frankland Bridge as part of the effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limon and Bristy, who were in a relationship and reportedly considering marriage, had been missing since April 16. A family friend alerted university police after being unable to reach either of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

University and Community Response<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

USF President Moez Limayem expressed the university’s grief in a message to faculty and students: “Please join me in praying for the families and friends of Zamil, and for the safe return of Nahida.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limon’s family in Bangladesh expressed devastation. “It’s devastating for us,” his brother Zubaer Ahmed said. “We are becoming numb. We just want to know the truth or what happened to them.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
